NHLANGANO – Ubombo Flyers goalkeeper Ndumiso Mngometulu was the hero as he saved a decisive Maxwell ‘King Dunga’ Zikalala first penalty to earn his side a Ingwenyama Cup gold medal.

The Lubombo Super League outfit managed to convert all the five penalties with Masundwini Royal Swallows denied the only spot kick by the legendary Zikalala. The latter dusted his soccer boots to play for the Manzini Super League side. Flyers midfielder Thabani Matsenjwa never disappointed in the last penalty as he converted to make the score 5-3 in penalties.

There was no need for Royal Swallows to take the last penalty as even if their player was on target, the final score would have been 5-4.
The two sides had settled for a 1-all draw inside 90 minutes and also in extra time, neither side scored.

The champions will receive E40 000 while the runners-up will pocket home half the winner’s prize.
Won
Interestingly, a Lubombo team won the tournament last Cup last year. City Warriors beat Shiselweni side Young Movers 2-0 to win the Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accident Fund-sponsored tournament.
The game was fairly balanced for the entire 120 minutes despite that the champions were one man down after Sizwe Maziya was given marching orders by referee Mciniseli Sithole after a rough tackle on Bongani Dlamini in the 80th minute.

Royal Swallows right winger Samkelo Mdzebele broke the deadlock six minutes after the half-hour mark.Mdzebele took defenders on a solo run on the right flank before unleashing a low shot to beat the advancing goalkeeper.
The game went into the breather with the Dumisa Malaza-coached side enjoying the slender lead.

On  resumption of play, the Gcina Dlamini-led charges piled more pressure on their opponents and eventually levelled matters with 16 minutes to spare.
It was substitute Thabani Matsenjwa who benefitted from a goal-mouth scramble and tapped the ball past goalkeeper Mnotfo Mbingo to force the game to extra time.
