MBABANE – Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga has lauded ace golfer Nobuhle Dlamini for not denouncing her Eswatini citizenship.

The minister met the shining South Africa-based golfer, who is under pressure to change her nationality. Lucrative sponsorships are reportedly being dangled at her.  The meeting, which was meant to discuss a number of issues around golf and sport in general, was held at the Happy Valley in Ezulwini yesterday.
According to a correspondence from the ministry’s communication office, the meeting had been scheduled last month when the minister personally called Dlamini to congratulate her on her victory in the Dimension Data Challenge.

“It was a pleasure to finally meet Nobuhle Dlamini after our conversation over the phone in February. It was a very fruitful meeting in which we discussed a number of issues. It was also very pleasing to hear her talk passionately about Eswatini and remaining loyal to her country despite the fact that she has been encouraged to acquire South African citizenship in order to get more sponsorships.

“We remain extremely proud of Dlamini and we hope that she will continue being an inspiration and a great ambassador for our beautiful country,” said the minister.

During the meeting, the minister thanked Dlamini for staying true and loyal to her country of birth.
Dlamini, on the other hand, also shared with Bulunga her desire to conduct motivational talks and clinics to encourage more Eswatini young people who aspire to become professional.

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old, who returns to South Africa for next Wednesday’s Cape Town Ladies Challenge, has started the 2019 Sunshine Tour on a high note.  She is up there with the ‘big guns’.

Four tournaments have been played so far and she has already won the Dimension Data Challenge to bag E100 000. She is fresh from the SuperSport Ladies Challenge, where she ranked second after finishing four strokes shy of the top spot. She currently leads in the Order of Merit charts, which makes her a frontrunner in the race to the Investec South Africa’s Women Open next week. This is the Sunshine Tour’s flagship event with a E2 million purse. Her total earnings in the tour so far are over the E160 000 mark.
