MBABANE – The much-anticipated MTN Premier League’s capital city derby between Mbabane Highlanders and Mbabane Swallows is no longer on next Sunday.

The match had been scheduled for Somhlolo National Stadium on March 10 but the league is now set to take a break to give way to the national team Sihlangu’s preparations for the group J clash with Tunisia away on March 22.
Sihlangu will only be completing the failed AFCON campaign as hosts Egypt and Tunisia long qualified at the expense of the locals and Niger.

“There’s little time for the national team to prepare for the Tunisia clash which falls on the FIFA week yet we must have played at least a friendly or two before so it has to be before they leave for the match,” explained Premier League of Eswatini (PLE) Chairman and Eswatini Football Association (EFA) Vice-President Peter ‘Touch’ Magagula when asked what will happen as dates clashed.

Magagula said it was quite an unfortunate situation but they would now have to readjust their calendar for the MTN League and EswatiniBank Cup. It is now most likely that the derby will be played on March 31, the weekend that had been set aside for the EswatiniBank Cup quarter-finals.

EFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Frederick Mngomezulu also confirmed they expected to have an international friendly next weekend as per the coach Kostadin Papic’s request.
