MBABANE – Is he the perfect replacement for departed forward Aladeon Kola?

Less than a month after losing the Nigeria-born prolific forward to Zambia giants Zesco, the capital city giants have imported highly-rated striker in Glody Lilepo Makabi from DR Congo giants AS Vita.

The gifted forward is fresh from Egyptian giants Zamalek, where he had reportedly been invited for trials.
Makabi arrived in the country about a week ago and immediately featured in a friendly match against Premier League side Vovovo and scored a brace. It was during the same game, where he allegedly had the Thabo ‘Koki’ Vilakati-led technical bench eating out of the palms of his hands.

The player is now training with Swallows on a full-time basis. Reports suggest he is wanted mainly for the CAF Champions League campaign. Contractual talks, according to impeccable sources, were put on hold pending Swallows’ return from Tanzania. The red and white ensemble are away in Dar es Salaam to honour their CAF Champions League preliminary round first leg clash against Simba Sports Club tomorrow at 3pm.

Final

The player’s celebrated agent, Alimasi Bin Saleh, confirmed that the player was in the country to join Swallows, but highlighted that there was nothing final yet.
“AS Vita were offering Makabi a long-term contract, but I took the player straight to Swallows from Egypt because they just lost Kola,” said Saleh.

Before the capital city giants’ farewell function at Prince of Wales Ground in Mbabane two days ago, the player trained with the rest of the Swallows players. He did not come out of the Swallows bus when the media arrived after training for the farewell function.

Meanwhile, Saleh is the same agent who exported the duo of Felix Badenhorst and Mthunzi ‘Xavi’ Mkhontfo to DR Congo’s AS Vita over two years ago. Players he gave to Swallows include the gifted duo of full-back Richard Sewu and centre-back Stanley Umukuro. The latter has since left for South Africa. Bernard Morrison, who used to play for Orlando Pirates, is another player under Saleh.

Swallows PRO Jackson Dlamini, who has left with the team to Tanzania, could not be drawn for comment on the issue. He was yet to respond to a text message sent to his phone by 8:22pm yesterday.
