MANZINI – The 2018 Southern Africa Inter-Municipal Sports Association (SAIMSA) games were officially launched yesterday at the Mavuso Sports Centre.

The launch was attended by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development Phiwayinkhosi Mabuza, Mayors from various municipalities, and representatives from towns of Southern African countries. Also present were the Chief Executive Officers of local municipalities, including Ezulwini, Mankayane, Matsapha, Nhlangano and others.

President of SAIMSA Sam Rametse said they were looking forward to a memorable year of sports among municipal employees from the SADC region. He thanked the Minister, Mabuza, for allowing the country’s municipalities to host this year’s games.

“We are very proud to be coming to the Kingdom of Eswatini for the SAIMSA games of 2018. We have no doubt that the country will benefit hugely from hosting this event as we have seen previously that visitors to the host nation always contribute positively to the economy,” he said.

Rametse said as the new administration of SAIMSA, they were coming in with new changes, which include the design of the games’ new logo.
“We are very proud to state that our new logo has been designed by liSwati, Manqoba Zwane. We hope that all the municipal athletes who will descend to Eswatini will enjoy their stay in the country and obey the rules. We also wish the local organising committee success as they prepare to host the games,” he said.

Minister Mabuza urged the municipal workers to use this opportunity of coming together to network and share ideas. He said they should find out how they can improve their municipalities.
