MBABANE – “Determination beats everything when you want to achieve anything in life.”

These were words of Umbutfo Swaziland Defence Force’s (USDF) Nkululeko Gama he made during the 58th edition of the Mbabane parkrun last Saturday at Mbabane Club.

Gama was responding to questions on his ambitions to win the 10km KwaMagogo race, which is set for tomorrow at Trelawney Park in Manzini. Gama came third in last year’s edition, clocking 29:37 minutes. The winner was USDF’s Melusi Khumalo on 29:15 minutes.

Gama, who has won the 5km timed parkrun 27 times, is confidence that he can win the KwaMagogo Legacy Run.

“I know that it won’t be easy because we all want to win it. However, I believe I am ready to challenge other runners. For me, I am driven by determination and I strongly believe that I can win it,” Gama said.
He further said the parkrun has helped him to improve his speed.

“While others run to compete in the parkrun, I’m always against the clock and on average I finish the 5km race in 15 minutes. Well, I need to try to finish the 10km KwaMagogo race in 27 minutes or less,” he said.

Meanwhile, Swazi Slojos and 12 times parkrun winner, Gugu Mthembu said she was ready to compete for a podium finish.
“The parkrun plays a great deal in helping me to be consistence in terms of my speed. I do hope that I will do well given that I have been trying for the past few months,” Mthembu said.
