MBABANE – Speaking through Ingwenyama Cup committee member, Zandile Tsabedze, Princes Hlangabeza and Bukhosi implored Mbabane Swallows players to do well in the Total CAF Confederation Cup in honour of slain business mogul and team boss Victor Gamedze.

Prince Hlangabeza is the Chairman of the football part of the tournament financially backed by Sincephetelo Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (SMVAF) while Prince Bukhosi oversees the culture part.

The committee, led by former Director of Sports in the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Henry Zeeman, was at Gamedze’s plush Dalriach residence in the suburbs of the capital city on Thursday to pass their heartfelt condolences to the killed Swazi Mobile chairman’s family.

Tsabedze said they were at pains as a committee following the tragic incident that happened last Sunday evening in Ezulwini where Gamedze was shot twice in the head at close range by an unknown gunman.

“He lived football and was good at bringing people together through the sport. It’s cruel. No one is perfect in this world but the killer must know that he has brought this nation on its knees. Through His Majesty the King, he pioneered the Ingwenyama Cup wherein football met culture, two things that are close to Swazis’ hearts,” Tsabedze said as she sent the committees sympathies to the football and business sectors.

“With the Lesotho trip coming up in this dark period, we pray that God gives Swallows players strength to win, go as far as possible in the tournament, just for him.”

Gamedze died aged 52 and his memorial service is scheduled for this morning at Prince of Wales Ground inside the capital city with his funeral tomorrow morning at KaLanga, his parental home outside the eastern Siteki town.
