NHLANGANO – A woman reported for work at a textile firm as usual on Tuesday but left cradling a baby in her arms in the evening.

The firm worker had the shock of her life when she gave birth in the midst of equally bewildered workmates, who welcomed the baby boy.
The woman was on duty at Juries Textile factory when contractions kicked in unexpectedly at around 7pm.

She immediately called out for help, according to a colleague. The woman had been reporting for work at the textile firm together with her husband, who is also employed at the same company, for the past nine months while heavily pregnant with her first -born child.
The couple had not anticipated that the baby would arrive so soon, they thought the day was yet to come.

But it soon became apparent that the baby was coming when the woman suddenly had a stinging pain, while busy with garments at the factory on Tuesday evening.
Colleagues at the garments factory quickly responded and took her to a staircase outside, where they laid her down and used garments to cover her while she gave birth.

She successfully delivered her bouncing baby boy amid roaring sounds of the factory machines in the background.
Paramedics were called to the company premises and they arrived 15 minutes after the initial call was made.

The paramedics arrived and assessed both the baby together with his mother, before ferrying them to the Nhlangano Health Centre.
This was said by the woman’s colleague who was present when the extraordinary birth took place at her workplace.

She said though it was for the first time for the woman to give birth, she however, remained calm throughout the ordeal.
Phindile Mavuso, a senior Matron, confirmed the arrival of the woman at the health facility. Details about the patient were not readily available from the senior staffer, save to tell this publication that the woman and the baby were fine.

“They were discharged from the hospital the following day,” she said.
Elmon Ndlovu, the Personnel Manager at the textile factory could not be drawn to comment about the incident.
He said he was not around when it all happened, and was yet to receive a report.

“I suppose if that really happened, somebody might have taken her to hospital. No one ever told me about the incident though,” he said.
Efforts to get the woman hit a snag as she had already been discharged from the hospital, and was reported not to be at work when this publication made an enquiry yesterday.
