MBABANE – It seems emaSwati will get a ‘double portion’ of Christmas this year.

This is because the Ministry of Home Affairs has shifted the Christmas Holiday from December 25, to the following day while the Boxing Day holiday has been shifted to December 27. This, however, is not to say Christmas will be celebrated on December 26 but the public holiday has been shifted. The celebration will take place on December 25 like all the other years.

Princess Lindiwe, who is the Minister of Home Affairs, announced this in a statement that was issued yesterday.
“This is in compliance with the Public Holiday Act of 1938”, she stated. In the statement, the minister said as mentioned in section 2 (a) “any such day falls on a Sunday the following Monday shall be observed as a public holiday”.

She further stated section 2 (b) states that “if Boxing Day falls on a Monday the following Tuesday shall be observed as a public holiday”. The minister further emphasised that the day appointed as a public holiday was considered to be a non-business day.
