MBABANE - It has since emerged that a sum of E455 350 was stolen during the Standard Bank ATM bombing at the Mbabane Industrial Site.

This is according to count 11 of the charge sheet, where the four men have been accused of robbing the bank after bombing the ATM structures. It is alleged that the quartet went away with the money after threatening Sicelo Malindzisa with a firearm. Malindzisa is the security guard who was deployed at the ATM. It is alleged that Malindzisa was deprived of his freedom during the commission of the offence, resulting in the quartet being charged with kidnapping.  They were also charged for the illegal possession of a 9mm Glock pistol without a valid licence.

According to the charge sheet, the quartet proceeded to CH Spares in Matsapha, where they purchased a Nisasan Funga valued at E26 800. The purchase of the motor vehicle by the accused persons had seen them facing a charge of contravening Section 4(1) (c) as read with Section 76  and 89 (1) (a) of the Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (Prevention) Act of 2011 as amended. This is because the Crown believes that the money was obtained through the commission of the offences. It has also been disclosed that the quartet visited a shop known as Studio 88 at The Gables in Ezulwini, where they purchased clothing valued at E9 949.  The quartet was also charged with contravening Section 27 (i) of the Central Bank of Eswatini Order of 1974 in that, without permission  from the bank, they  willfully mutilated money in notes issued by the bank.
