MOB JUSTICE: 2 PEOPLE KILLED IN DAGGA WARS

NHLANGANO – Two people were subjected to mob justice and died in separate incidents involving dagga.

In the latest incident, a man succumbed to injuries he had sustained after he was assaulted by a mob from Mkhitsini. It was gathered from sources close to the matter that the deceased (32) of Mahlalini was in the company of his friend on Sunday when they went to rob a family at Mkhitsini of dagga. Sources revealed that the duo was allegedly armed with a gun.  Information gathered from the sources was to the effect that as they attempted to rob the family, one of the family members raised the alarm and neighbours responded to the call. In the process, it was gathered that the other friend was able to escape, leaving the now deceased behind. The mob assaulted the man until he was weak and was left there overnight.

Hospital

“Good Samaritans took him to hospital the next morning,” narrated the source. It was said that police were informed about the incident and they reported to the scene. The man later succumbed to the injuries while admitted to Hlatikhulu Government Hospital. Deputy Police Information and Communications Officer Inspector Nosipho Mnguni, confirmed the death of a 32-year-old man of Mahlalini, who was discovered to have been assaulted by a mob and suffered multiple injuries. She further confirmed that he succumbed to his injuries while in hospital. Mnguni revealed that there were no arrests made yet, adding that they were still investigating the matter. This is the second mob incident to happen in two weeks in the region. The other mob incident happened under Hosea Constituency, where a mob attacked and killed two men who had gone to rob a family of their money.

The family also raised the alarm and neighbours responded with all sorts of weapons and assaulted the thieves, one of whom died on the way to a health facility and the other at Hlatikhulu Government Hospital after being admitted. In the second incident, 10 people have been arrested in connection with the murder of another, over dagga. Nkosingiphile Manana was allegedly attacked by the mob on allegations of a dagga deal gone wrong. Khetha Sihlalo Manana (32), Saneliso Shongwe (34), Doctor Manana (28), Elliot Tfulilemphi Matfunywa (49), Madara Hlophe (30), Elphas Tsela (44), Sinethemba Vilakati (22), Majahonkhe Hlophe (21), Njabuliso Manana (22) of Sigcineni, and Ayanda Mthembu (25) of Big Bend, appeared before Manzini Magistrate Thamsanqa Ndlovu yesterday for the charge of murder.

The incident happened at Sigcineni last Thursday. According to the charge sheet, the accused persons unlawfully and intentionally killed Nkosingiphile by assaulting him with sticks, sjamboks and a short baton several times all over the body. When their rights to legal representation were explained, they all elected to be represented by a lawyer. They were remanded in custody until August 24, 2022, pending committal to the High Court. They were also advised to seek bail at the High Court.
