MBABANE – In respect of the pending national dialogue, Government Spokesperson Alpheous Nxumalo says so far government is preoccupied with putting strategies in place to secure the territorial integrity and the safety of the nation.

In an interview with this publication yesterday, Nxumalo said these strategies that government was busy with were for the safety of the nation against terrorists who were relentlessly destroying properties of emaSwati and in the most cowardly fashion, murdering members of the security forces. Nxumalo was asked to shed some light on what were the developments when it came to the preparations for the much anticipated dialogue.

Dialogue

On July 16, Nxumalo told the media that the national dialogue was on course and did not belong to political formations only. He said the dialogue had not been delayed; it had no timeline when initially announced. He reminded the nation that the dialogue would be held and conducted according to the country’s national Constitution hence, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) had nothing to ‘ensure’.

When presenting Cabinet’s quarterly report to the portfolio committee at or around July 8, 2022, Prime Minister (PM) Cleopas Sipho Dlamini said the envisaged dialogue would be announced once the environment was conducive. Dlamini said government was concerned by the sporadic scenes of violence and killings in the name of political reforms. He said they remained strong believers that dialogue could guarantee a peaceful and sustainable solution that would ensure the safety and welfare of all emaSwati, including the youth without further loss of life.
