OVER E1M LOSS AS GOVT TRUCK SET ALIGHT AT VOCTIM

MATSAPHA- Government has yet again incurred a loss of approximately over E1 million after a tipper truck that was torched at the Gwamile Vocational and Commercial Training Institute Matsapha (VOCTIM).

The tipper truck belonged to the Ministry of Education and Training and it was burnt beyond repairs. The arson attack by unknown people happened at around 1am yesterday. This happened when the two security guards present were reportedly patrolling around the institution. It is reported that the arsonists failed to torch two buses which were also parked at the vocational training institute, as the alarm was raised before they could proceed to burn the bus.

Arsonists

According to an impeccable source from within the institution, the two security guards stationed there had gone to patrol at the far north end of the institution. He said the arsonists took advantage of this and entered the premises. The source revealed that the guards were alarmed by the noise of the burning truck and quickly rushed to the scene, where they observed the truck already in flames. He said the arsonists targeted the government vehicles as personal ones were spared. VOCTIM Principal Tanele Dlamini confirmed the arson attack on the government vehicles. She said police officers were immediately called and attended promptly to the scene.

Meanwhile, Principal Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Education and Training Bhekithemba Gama, said the value of the tipper truck was over E1 million. He said the damage was extensive such that the truck could not be repaired. Recently, Eswatini Posts and Telecommunications Corporations’ (EPTC) base station at Ekukhulumeni, Ntondozi, was torched by two unknown men. This happened during the early hours on a Sunday. The cost of the damage was not ascertained. This publication reported that the security guard was tied up and his phone taken, wherein the men proceeded to petrol bomb the main entrance. According to a source, the security guard was released after the attack and his phone was later found some kilometres away from the site.
