TUCOSWA: PROVIDING SECURITY TO KING MISUZULU A BLUNDER

MBABANE – It’s a political blunder!

This was the reaction of the Trade Union Congress of Swaziland (TUCOSWA) following news that Eswatini has been providing security to recently-announced Zulu King Misuzulu KaZwelithini. The union’s Secretary General, Mduduzi Gina, stated that the move by the country to provide security detail to King Misuzulu automatically concluded that South Africa was failing to provide enough security under the prevailing circumstances.
Gina said such blunder could cost King Misuzulu and the country in the near future. He said KwaZulu-Natal was within the Republic of South Africa territory and anyone seen to be in a state of a security risk within that country was the responsibility of the State to provide him or her with security.

Situation

He said what the country had done could result in a situation where South Africa would have challenges in providing the Zulu King with security if there were no agreements between the governments of the two countries (South Africa and Eswatini). The secretary general stated that the issues of blood relations could not be escalated to a level whereby the duties of the South African State would be seen being doubted by the Kingdom of Eswatini. “We give ourselves comfort that we are hopeful that there is some kind of an agreement that was entered into between Eswatini and SA.” Gina said royal households of KwaZulu-Natal and Eswatini could not communicate between themselves because the latter did not have jurisdiction of security in South Africa. He said the royalty in KwaZulu was not head of State or institution that was involved in political power, hence could not discuss or allege to have agreed on security matters.

“Security matters are political. We understand though that King Misuzulu has been in the country, which is his second home but when it comes to the issues of security, SA should have taken over,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the Swaziland Solidarity Network (SSN) was quoted by the African News Agency (ANA) condemning the alleged wastage of emaSwati taxpayers’ money by virtue of providing security to King Misuzulu, who is son to King Goodwill Zwelithini and Queen Mantfombi Dlamini, who both recently passed away. Queen Mantfombi was the daughter of King Sobhuza II and by extension, a sister to His Majesty King Mswati III. SSN Spokesperson Lucky Lukhele told the SA news agency that the Zulu kingdom had sufficient funds to cater for its security provisions without feeding off the taxpayers of Eswatini.
