MBHULENI- Who’s fooling who? This is a question three men asked themselves after they discovered that they had been misled into believing a child  was fathered by each of them and the woman in question had been sourcing funds without them knowing the truth.

*Martha found herself in an awkward situation after a whistleblower alerted the men about the predicament.
The child in question is four months old and yesterday it was discovered that the woman was in possession of three health cards with names of the three different men.

Assault

“The three health cards belong to the same child, however the names of the fathers are different. The police had to be called as the woman was threatened with assault by two of the men,” a community police member from the area alleged yesterday.
The whistle-blower confirmed that he revealed the secret to the different fathers after he was infuriated by Martha, his cousin.
He said Martha disclosed secrets about his outside love affairs to his wife, something which offended him.

“I knew from when she was pregnant that the baby would be financially supported by three men and I warned her against this. Each time she would leave the man she stayed with for the others, she would say she was going to her parental home in Siteki,” Nhlanhla alleged.

He further revealed that out of anger, he contacted one of the men and informed him that he was being taken advantage of.
After he had been called, *Themba arrived at Martha’s place but did not find her as she hid in another house.
*Mongezi, who stays with Martha, is alleged to have revealed that he financially supported the child.

Rescue

Mbhuleni community police members had to rescue her from the house yesterday morning after threats of assault by the two men.
The two men refused to be questioned by journalists.  The Matsapha police were called and bundled the three into a police van and took them to the police station for questioning.
It was gathered that upon arrival at the police station, there was an order for DNA tests and Martha was informed that the process would require her to pay for the costs.

After statements had been recorded, one of the men eventually allowed this reporter to question him. He disclosed that he was still shocked and traumitised by his lover’s actions.
The man, who is employed by the Royal Swaziland Sugar Corporation (RSSC) said he had been financially supporting the child as he had been told it belonged to him.
“The child was taken to my parents when he was only eight days old. What shocked me the most is that there are two other men who are in the picture. Martha had informed me that she stayed with her parents and not another man, this is unbelievable,” the man said.

Meanwhile, Save the Children Advocacy and Communications Officer Lusito Tsela said the incident was shocking and unacceptable as the child would be affected in the long run, especially psychologically.

DNA

“Even after DNA tests and the rightful father is disclosed, he would not properly love the child after this incident. Psychologically, he would be affected and not be able to be there for the child and love him properly due to the mother’s mistakes,”
Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed the matter and said the police had started conducting investigations.

Vilakati said a DNA process would be conducted while the police were investigating the incident.
She added that no one was arrested.
