MANZINI – Police acted swiftly in quashing what almost turned into a nasty incident relating to the Ding Dong styled buses.

Once again, some conductors and marshals made an attempt to start an uproar, similar to the one they perpetuated before at the Mbabane Bus Rank.
They burnt tyres and placed stones on the road around Mvutjini, in a bid to hinder the bus from driving through to the Mbabane Bus Rank.

Police promptly arrived at the scene and dispersed the perpetrators, before removing the stones and the tyres from the road. The law enforcers further captured a video of the culprits during their violent behaviour, something which might lead to the apprehension of some of the suspects.

Smoothly

After clearing the road, the bus operated smoothly throughout the day without any interference. The owner of the buses, Jabulani Gulwako, expressed his appreciation to the police for a job well done, especially by capturing the video of the culprits.

“I am delighted that the police were able to capture a video of the culprits during the incident, as this might make it easier for them to arrest the troublemakers,” he said.  According to Gulwako, apart from the police who were deployed at the Mbabane Bus Rank, some officers were officially deployed at Mvutjini to safeguard the area.

This was because the area was seemingly becoming a crime spot given the fact that the lawbreakers once interfered with the smooth operation of the buses at the same spot, prior to the incident that occurred on Wednesday.
Chief Police Information and Communications Officer, Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, confirmed that police managed to calm the situation.

Troublemakers

“The troublemakers attempted to instigate an uproar, however, the buses operated smoothly the whole day because as police we were available to provide security,” she said. This comes shortly after 10 police officers from the traffic department safely escorted the buses during their daily operation at the rank as per their promise.

Meanwhile, the Bus Association and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, together with the Mbabane traffic police officers, reached an agreement that the buses would be escorted by police officers during their daily operations at the rank. The buses service the Mbabane-Manzini-Mahlanya route.
This agreement was a culmination of a meeting that was held at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport offices in Mbabane.

This arrangement, according to the parties, was intended to avoid the occurrence of a commotion similar to the one that was experienced at the Mbabane Bus Rank, whereby one of the buses was blocked from entering or leaving the bus rank on grounds that legal procedure was not followed when obtaining its permit to service the route.
