MBABANE – It may not have taken 48-hours, but suspended Director of Youth Affairs Bheki Thwala has been reinstated.
The letter of reinstatement, according to impeccable sources, was delivered to Thwala yesterday afternoon.

Thwala’s reinstatement comes two weeks after the House of Assembly resolved that the officer who had been on suspension for about three years be re-instated or the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga would face a vote of no confidence.

Thwala had been suspended following an audit query by the former Auditor General Phestecia Nxumalo, who alleged that there had been mismanagement of money and other assets belonging to the Youth Enterprise Revolving Fund (YERF) where Thwala was the acting Fund manager.

Budget

However, during the budget debate by the ministry’s portfolio committee which was chaired by Siphofaneni MP Mduduzi Simelane, the House resolved that if Thwala was not reinstated within 48 hours, then the minister could face the boot.
This was after a motion by Motshane MP Robert Magongo, who was supported by Hosea MP Mduduzi Mabuza.

The officer had been suspended with pay about three years ago after criminal charges were laid against him,  however, he had since been cleared by the police and the office of the director of public prosecutions.
