NKWALINI – Shock, devastation and bereavement. These are the words that sum up the state at Nkwalini Primary School, where two female pupils were raped, murdered after they had been reported missing for a couple of days.

The entire school was touched when they were formally informed about the gruesome murder of the girls, by the head teacher yesterday.
The two girls; Timile Nhlabatsi and Sebenele Gama, left a semblance of distraught to the entire school.

When this reporter arrived at the school, pupils were assembled at the school’s premises to be officially addressed about the girls’ passing.
When addressing pupils, teachers, support staff and the school committee, Head teacher Hamilton Khumalo informed the school that the two girls were discovered dead last week Thursday.

To pupils who were hearing the sad news for the first time, it was a whirlwind of emotions, as some of them were seen covering their faces in shock and disbelief.

Others could not hold back their tears as they sobbed and moaned.
Khumalo comforted the pupils and requested them to be supportive towards the girls’ families.

He conveyed his condolences to the entire school body for the double loss and assured pupils to be strong during the course of the dark cloud which had engulfed the school.

The head teacher encouraged them to be united during this time.
Pupils were given letters to take home and classes were dismissed. Teachers and support staff went to the girls’ homes to mourn the children’s deaths.
In an interview with Khumalo, he pointed out that the school had learnt of the sad news with immense shock.

“We are still astonished at the news of the passing of our two girls. As teachers, we become parents to these children and their death is a huge blow to us,” said Khumalo.
