SITEKI – A scuffle broke out between police officer and election nominees outside the Swaziland Revenue Authority (SRA) service centre in Siteki yesterday evening.

Scores of nominated candidates had crammed the service centre in order to process their tax clearance certificates ahead of the submission deadline set by the elections body.
All nominated candidates are required by election laws to submit their tax clearance certificates with the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC), and the deadline for this year’s elections is today.

The scores of election nominees who had crammed the Siteki SRA service centre became frustrated as the clock struck 5:30pm.
This resulted in a lot of pushing and shoving, prompting some nominees to call the police to maintain order.

When police arrived, they immediately blocked the entrance to the service centre and ordered the nominees to form a clear and straight line.
But instead of forming one line, the nominees formed two opposite lines.

There was a lot of shoving as the police tried to force the nominees to form one line and some officers were seen scuffling with some nominees. “Go to the back! You won’t be allowed inside if you’re not in the queue,” shouted one officer as he was pulling some nominees.
The strategy of the police angered some nominees and most of them expressed their unhappiness with the intervention of the police. “Ningasenti bantfwana nine (stop treating us like children),” shouted one of the nominees.
