EKUTSIMLENI – You can run and hide, but not forever. This has been the case with a South African suspected criminal who was wanted by the police for a litany of crimes in the country, especially in Luve and surrounding areas.

The most wanted criminal, Vusi Ntimane (33) was shot dead in an alleged shootout with police yesterday at about 6am.
The horrific incident, which is currently the talk of the town around Luve and Ekutsimleni, where it occurred left most residents shattered and speechless. Most feared to talk about the shooting, while some described all the events which occurred in the morning.

Robberies

Although details of the shooting remained scanty from the police’s side, Ntimane was described as a violent man who was wanted in connection with several offences, including armed robberies, where loads of cash was stolen. He was also suspected to be behind the Luve automated teller machines (ATM) bombing, among others, which occurred in August last year.

Information gathered was that Ntimane, originally from Mpolonjeni, Siteki emerged from a Matsebula homestead after he had been informed that he was wanted by the police, who had already surrounded the place at the time.

The police are alleged to have received information of the presence of the suspect at the homestead, and they headed to the place.
This was after they had allegedly interrogated one of the arrested suspects, who is said to have committed the offences together with Ntimane.

“When they got to the homestead, he was ordered out of the place and he came out running and bolted to the forests and down the stream. After crossing the stream, he came across more police officers, who were already shooting at him. We watched from a distance and saw all the events which eventually led to his death. The police fired so many shots and each was carrying a pistol. the suspect was shot several times before he drew his own gun and attempted to shoot at the team of police officers,” a resident who preferred not to be named, said yesterday.
