LOBAMBA – “Our phones have been bugged.” Minister of Information, Communication and Technology Dumisani Ndlangamandla’s absence in Parliament yesterday saved him from giving responses regarding the above statement.

The statement was made by Mtfongwaneni Member of Parliament (MP) Mjuluko Dlamini, who said the nation was now scared to communicate on their cellphones as their gadgets had been bugged.

His statement comes after rumours have been circulating that the state was now able to listen to all conversations between certain individuals.  Dlamini said it was a pity that the minister was not in attendance as he wanted him to tell the nation what was going on.
He did not specify how exactly the bugging was being done or even the mobile company that was involved. He moved that the minister should be made to explain the moment he sets foot in the chambers.

His motion was seconded by Mbabane West MP Johane Shongwe, who also said people were now scared to communicate freely.
During yesterday’s sitting, there were only two Cabinet ministers in attendance, and these were Edgar Hillary and Christopher Gamedze.
While Hillary stayed for the better part of the sitting, it was not the case with Gamedze, who left before the legislators went for a short break at 4pm.

Gamedze was later seen with some of his colleagues at the Mandvulo Hall, where they welcomed visiting President of India Ram Nath Kovind.
The absence of the ministers did not augur well with the MPs, who demanded to know if they had done so deliberately. MP Jan Sithole was among those who stood up and raised this concern, saying he did not understand why the ministers were not present.
