LOZITHA – His Majesty King Mswati III wants trade between the country, the Kingdom of Lesotho and Botswana to be increased.

The King said this when he accepted letters of credence from the Kingdom of Lesotho High Commissioner to Swaziland, Eveline Malejaka Letooane and Botswana High Commissioner to Swaziland Zanene Sinombe, at Lozitha Palace, yesterday.

He said since the three countries were members of a number of international organisations, like the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) and SACU, among others, they should promote trade among themselves in order to improve their economies.

He said as developing countries, the trio had a number of challenges, so sharing of information and knowledge would be vital for their benefit.
“Information and knowledge sharing is important as it is one way of maximising the benefits in the areas where we have challenges,” the King said.

He said Swaziland was still faced with challenges of unemployment and diseases. He, however, mentioned that there were many programmes that had been put in place in a bid to address the problems.

He said he had also noted that working with friendly countries like the Kingdom of Lesotho and Botswana, would benefit the country because they had a lot to share.

“I hope that during your stay in the country as high commissioners for your respective countries, we will find new areas of cooperation.
“Again, like I said, we have existing trade going on but I believe there is room for expansion,” the King said.

His Majesty further said he was pleased to note that the Batswana participated in the country’s annual Trade Fair and Exhibition like the country did in Botswana.
He also promised the high commissioners that they would receive all the support they would need while carrying their duties in the country.
