MBABANE – A suspected poacher  was shot dead in Big Bend for suspected poacher on Saturday.

Information gathered was that the man was allegedly found with a poached animal within the proximity of a game reserve on Saturday. However, details were scanty as police were still investigating the matter when this report was compiled. Police Deputy Information and Communications Officer Inspector Phindile Vilakati confirmed the death.

“Rangers shot a man dead and no one has been arrested yet.” She could not expand on the matter, citing that the police were still pursuing the matter.
Recently, game rangers at Mkhaya Nature Reserve shot a boy aged 13 for alleged poaching. While the boy was shot, four more were arrested for allegedly poaching while three fled the scene of crime. These were separate incidents of alleged poaching.

The boy was shot by the rangers in his right leg as he had been part of an entourage that was spotted poaching at Hhokwane hill.
It has been gathered that rangers were deployed after an alarm was raised and they eventually came into contact with four poachers in the thick bush.
The poachers were found still skinning two impalas after they had trapped them using snares.
