MBABANE – The alleged mastermind behind the poaching of rhinos in the country escaped being extradited from South Africa to face his alleged crimes.

This was after he was sentenced, with an option of a fine, for a case of stock theft which he had been arrested for in Nhlazatje, South Africa.
An impeccable source said after they heard than Dan Wilson Nkosi, who is wanted for the crimes under the Game Act in Swaziland, had been arrested, they went to Nhlazatje and applied for an extradition order for him to face the justice system of the country.

The source said this was in June last year. He said the court made a recommendation that Nkosi should be kept in a South African jail, until the minister of justice of the country signed his extradition order.

“Wilson Nkosi is part of a syndicate dealing in poaching rhinos and is wanted in the country, together with others. A separation of trial would have been performed if he had been successfully extradited,” the source said. He said in November last year, Nkosi was put on trial in Ermelo for stock theft, where he was granted a fine which he paid, and was subsequently freed.

He said the judicial officers in that country did not put it in light that there was an application for extradition for Nkosi, and he then managed to escape.
Nkosi is wanted together with Bhekumusa Mawillis Shiba (35) who has been named as one of the first nine Infra Terra suspects wanted for environmental crime by the International Police (Interpol) and is wanted for allegedly killing and dehorning a rhino.
