THE REWARD FOR RESPECT

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Sir,

Thanks for allowing me space to share my views in your newspaper. I grew up in one big community of Zombodze, in the Shiselweni Region. I was truly blessed as I was raised by my grandmother for a better part of my childhood (may her soul rest in peace).

Before angels from above called for her soul, she always taught us the importance of respect as a person; from one person to another, especially the young to the old, and in all aspects in life.
The Bible always reminds us that the beginning of wisdom is to fear the Lord. I do believe that the result of that is understanding that every act t has a consequence or result in life.

This helps a person understand that in everything they do, respect plays a vital role in one’s life, such that it can determine one’s fate. Respecting the other person and what they do is important.

Respects

If one respects self, one lives a life with dignity and pride, and that they do become a success.
Respecting yourself first and knowing where you come from and your purpose in life is what will make you live longer and be productive.
There are many incidents where a person ends up not respecting their own self.

By listening and taking everything they are told without first understanding and making the right choice, people mess up their lives.
As the Kingdom of Eswatini, we have a tendency of copying everything that is done by other countries and taking everything they tell us to do. That is not the right way. We have to show respect for our country by first deciding if whatever they advise us on will benefit it in the right way.

Advice

It is not wrong to listen to advise and copying others but first there is a need to determine if that will benefit our country. This is because it is not always the case that what works for another leader will work for ours.

That makes us vulnerable and easy to manipulate. We lack respect for self values and worth, which comes from wisdom found in God and education.
From respecting oneself, one has to go on and respect one’s endeavors. It took someone’s intelligence to realise that for one to do their job or task proficiently, one has to study and gain skills and knowledge necessary for a particular task.

That means when you are assigned to a certain job that you are qualified for, they did so because they have confidence and trust in you.
Yours is then to respect your duties by doing everything as required and then work well with your coworkers to create a smooth working environment for yourself and others.

Rewarded

By so doing, you can be rewarded intensely with a quick promotion or better remuneration as an example.
Last but not least, one has to show respect towards others. We stay in communities where we need each other every day.
The Bible teaches adolescents to honor their parents, and the reward for that is having more days on this earth.

Young people should understand that every elder in their community is their parent and they all deserve to be respected in all aspect of their lives.
If we want to lead a clean and fruitful life, we should have respect all the time.
