SET GOALS, NOT RESOLUTIONS

 Sir,

I’m not a meme person. One of the reasons I do not like them is because they are passive aggressions that are presented as jokes, but really most of them are full of hate and manipulation.

And that hatred is mostly directed to a certain group of people, usually the minority groups. And that is just not okay, hence my lack of interest in them.
I know that at the end of every year, every time, there will be people who complain about what a bad year it has been. Every year they complain, it never gets old.

But if you look at it from the fact that you are the author of your own story of life, wouldn’t it make more sense to call yourself a bad writer, than cursing each passing year?

Resolutions

Look, people make resolutions every year. And I’m as much a New Year’s resolution person as I am a meme person - not a fan. I prefer setting goals than simply jotting down a list of things I want to do. The difference between resolutions and goals is that resolutions are a list of what people would like to achieve, whereas goals are also a list, but with timeframes, a plan on how to achieve them, and they are actually measurable.

Usually when someone sets goals, they work from what they have. For example, a resolution is something like; ‘this year I want to buy a car’, and a goal is; ‘I have saved this amount of money, I need to have saved 30 grand more by April so that I can buy a car come May’. Resolutions are like the alarm clock, if you’re not ready to wake up, you will keep pressing that snooze button.

Pressing

It is the fear of pressing that snooze button that always propels me to setting goals rather than New Year’s resolutions.
It is my love for writing that helps me understand what it means to be the author of my own life, which in turn helps me take responsibility for everything that happens to me, because it wouldn’t happen unless I include that chapter in my book.

Do not make unpleasant chapters the longest in your book, it is ok to let go of things that do not make you happy. And remember that with each chapter comes a new blank page, write a good one!
