LET ACTIONS SPEAK MORE

Sir,

Thank you for allowing me space to share my views with the thousands of readers in our beautiful country.

The main reason why emaSwati fail to understand or take serious anything that government says is because our government is a good talker but the actions are less. For example, government says it now and again that it has no money and as citizens it is difficult to understand that talk.

For years we have been complaining about wasteful expenditure which we witness everyday and further read about it in newspapers but when government should take action, nothing is done.
The only time when we see government taking serious action is when it has to implement circulars and this makes some of us sense some selfishness and greediness there.

It does not make sense to watch government officials getting hefty salaries when the talk is that the country is not good financially.
If we do not have money as a country, let us all experience that and be witnesses when it comes to how the little that is available is spent.

The most important thing is for the whole nation to see a change in the way that our government operates. It is the actions that will make us understand the extent of the financial challenges. For example, government recently announced that the issuing of tenders was halted until such a time that the financial situation normalised. Yes it was mentioned that special projects would be considered especially when there was some sense of urgency.

There was also an announcement that hosting workshops and conferences in hotels would be closely monitored but it is clear that there is not much tightening of screws that has been done in that regard.
Yes, we had Cabinet hosting its retreat at a hotel. So, to other citizens this sounds negative because it makes them feel like our government is all talk and no action.

So the question arises on how we should believe that government does not have money when Cabinet continues to enjoy meals in hotels instead of using boardrooms which are readily available in all the ministries.

This is similar to a father who tells his children that there is no money for school fees but everyday he comes home drunk and in a happy mood. Should he be trusted? The answer is no!
So in short I am pleading with our government to develop a culture of talking and then implementing so that we can all be satisfied.
