MBABANE –Mr Swaziland Okwakhe Dlamini’s chances of participating in the Mr World Contest are very slim.
This comes after the global showpiece’s postponement to June next year. The beauty king said he received the news through an e-mail sent to him by the Mr World committee.

He said Miss World Choreographer Marc West confirmed the news to him.
“As much as these are really sad news, one has no choice but to wait,” said Dlamini.

The beauty king said there were positives he would accrue from the postponement, like time to complete his charity and community projects. He also said it would give him ample time to source the ever elusive funds for him to attend the global showpiece.

“It has always been my wish to build an orphanage. I have communicated this wish to the committee and I have also been doing behind the scenes lobbying and fundraising with the relevant people,” said Dlamini.

G6 Promotions and Mr Swaziland co-Director Tony Dlamini confirmed this and was very clear in declaring that the eliminations would go ahead. Asked who will attend the Mr World contest next year, he said this would be at the committee’s discretion. He, however, hinted that Okwakhe’s chances were next to nothing.

“We are definitely going ahead with the eliminations. If by next year a new Mr Swaziland is chosen as it is obvious, we might decide on him as it would be awkward that we are represented by someone chosen years back. Unfortunate as it is, we are really disturbed by this development,” said Dlamini.
The Mr World contest 2009 was supposed to be held in South Korea next month.
