Miss Swaziland Nompilo Mncina left the country on Thursday afternoon to join other girls in the Miss World contest. The girls will first go to London, where they will be doing charity work amongst other things. Mncina said she was not yet aware what exactly they would be doing in London but they would enlighten them once they got there.

After their two week stay in London, the girls will go to Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates. They will stay for two days in the city and take part in a fashion show. After that, they will all come to South Africa where the finals will take place in Johannesburg.

The finals will take place on December 12. A lot of Swaziland’s representatives have failed to make any impact during the Miss World contest. It remains to be seen whether the 23 year old will make any impact but she is very confident of herself. She also said a lot of people had given her support.

Before her departure on Thursday, the beauty queen got the chance to bid farewell to His Majesty the King who gave her pocket money for her trip and also gave her his blessings. His Majesty also told her to visit the Swazi Embassies in the foreign countries, would support her.

Inkhosikati LaMbikiza made the traditional costume which Mncina will wear during the contest. She also gave her evening gowns and shoes. The Inkhosikati has always supported the country’s beauties when they go for the world contest.

Other people who have sponsored her for her trip include Woolworths stores, Mr Matata, Nail Bar, Siphalele and Art Revelation.
Mncina is not new in beauty contests as she was once crowned Miss UNISWA. She has a lot of experience which makes her more confident.

Style got the chance to chat with Mncina before her trip.
Style: What gives you confidence as you leave for the contest?
Nompilo: The fact that I am well versed on beauty pageants.

I know all that is required during beauty contests. I have done my charity work, which is a major prerequisite of Miss World since Miss World should be ‘a beauty with a purpose’. I also have the personality of a true Swazi and I have respect. I also have the blessings of His Majesty the King.

I know that the whole nation is behind me.
Style:  Who has been your main supporter as you prepared for your trip?
Nompilo: My family, my friends, sponsors, the Miss Swaziland committee and Make LaMbikiza who has been a rock.
Style: Do you think you are well prepared for Miss World?
Nompilo: Of course, I got blessings and I have all the required outfits including the traditional costume. I also have some stuff to share on Swaziland which includes pamphlets and booklets which I will distribute to other people, so that they get to know my country.

Style: What do you hope to achieve in the contest besides winning the crown?
Nompilo: I hope to make friends for my country and for myself and I also hope to achieve personal growth.
Style: Who is your main inspiration?

Nompilo: I draw inspiration from myself. I set my own standards and expectations and I set out to be the best that I can be.
Style: What do you think will set you apart from the rest of the contestants and draw people to you?
Nompilo: I think I have a striking smile which shows that I am very welcoming and kind hearted. My smile shows that I’m approachable.

That to me shows that I have the qualities of a true queen. I am also very confident. I am Miss Swaziland after all, so what could intimidate me.
Style: What have you arranged about school?

Nompilo: I have made all the proper arrangements. I officially notified the authorities that I will be away for a while and as soon as I get back, it’s back to business for me.
Style: What will you take with you to represent the country?

Nompilo: My traditional costume. Many people know that Swaziland has a rich culture so this will show exactly how deep our culture is. I will also take my knowledge about the country. One of the things I will talk about most is that the country has managed to bring together a number of countries which had political problems. I will also take myself as the ambassador of the country, I will display all the respect that was instilled in me from a very young age. I also have the booklets which talk about the economy of the country and some also talk about development plans of the country.

Style: What is your promise to the nation?
Nompilo: I promise to do my level best during the contest. I will also take good care of myself and represent the country well. I will show that I was brought up the right way and not disappoint with my behaviour as I will be representing my family, my church and the whole Swazi nation. I want to do everyone proud.
