Times Of Swaziland: INVITE MOTSEPE TO INSPECT SOMHLOLO – SENATOR INVITE MOTSEPE TO INSPECT SOMHLOLO – SENATOR ================================================================================ Machawe Fakudze on 19/08/2022 08:07:00 MBABANE – “The Ministry should invite the Confederation of African Football Association (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe to inspect Somhlolo.” This statement was made by the Honourable Senator Vuka ‘Moi Moi’ Masilela in Parliament, to the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Harries ‘Madze’ Bulunga, after CAF did not approve the national stadium to host category A matches for both CAF and FIFA.Worth mentioning is that the billionaire president is not part of the continental football body’s technical teams doing stadium inspections. The ban of the stadium alongside the Mavuso Sport Centre has forced both the national team Sihlangu and CAF inter-clubs tournaments envoys to seek an alternative venue to host international matches. The senator suggested that the ministry should invite Motsepe himself to come and inspect the good rehabilitation work that had already been done at the national stadium. The ministry’s response, was that it was disappointed with the results of the inspection, revealing that they would engage the Eswatini Football Association (EFA) on the suggestion of the senator. Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Communications Officer Sibongiseni Zondi, said there was nothing to comment, as the issue was communicated in Senate. He also said it was the EFA’s duty to give an update on whether they would file an appeal to CAF over the inspection of the stadium. Meanwhile, EFA Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi Radebe, said the stadium belonged to the ministry. As a result, he could not comment on the matter. On the other hand, Masilela recently called for the withdrawal of Eswatini teams from CAF tournaments until the stadium issue was sorted. It is worth mentioning that to withdraw from such competitions comes with heavy fines and suspensions for both domestic teams and national teams.
