Times Of Swaziland: GOVT WON’T ALLOW THREAT TO SUCCEED - DPM GOVT WON’T ALLOW THREAT TO SUCCEED - DPM ================================================================================ Stanley Khumalo and Nhlanganiso Mkhonta on 07/12/2022 09:16:00 MBABANE – Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) Themba Masuku says government will not allow the disruption of the country’s transportation system next Tuesday. This is the day when Hosea and Ngwempisi Members of Parliament Mduduzi Bacede Mabuza and Mthandeni Dube will return to the High Court. According to Masuku, government’s position regarding this issue was clear; it would not allow the threat to be carried out. The DPM was addressing the media during a press conference held yesterday at the Cabinet Offices. He stated that on Tuesday (December 13, 2022), national business would continue, and the three arms of government would function. Protect Masuku said government would continue to discharge its paramount mandate and responsibility to protect the nation from deprivation of their constitutional rights by a few individuals and pressure organisations, who harboured dangerous ulterior and selfish motives without any known plan to improve livelihoods of the people. He said this ‘evil’ threat was planned by irresponsible individuals and pressure groups, who enjoyed and derived pleasure in seeing people suffer while they benefitted immensely from resources provided by their inconsiderate handlers. The DPM stated that the transport sector would operate on Tuesday despite the threat. He said this sector was not a political organisation, but one that moved people, goods and services. Transportation According to Masuku, government would stand together with the owners of public service vehicles and those who worked in this sector. He stated that transportation was the heart of a nation and necessary for the development of the country. He made an example of the transportation of medication to health facilities, people who sought medical attention such as dialysis, chemotherapy, emergency operations and others. Transport conveys thousands of people to work, children to schools, people doing trade and trucks conveying food and other materials, said Masuku. The DPM added that the people who wanted or were planning to disrupt the transport sector had only one objective; to destroy the lives and the livelihoods of emaSwati by depriving them of all the services that were needed in this country in various critical sectors. He said the person who was leading the call for the destruction of emaSwati would not be allowed to succeed. This individual, according to the DPM, had nothing to lose and was using the card of being the leader of a union with no recognition agreement with anyone. Regrettable “It is regrettable that this individual enjoys the support of certain interest groups that have no interest in the welfare of emaSwati,” he said. The DPM added that government was tracking the resources that came in the form of cash to finance the chaos. He stated that, as he indicated in his last media briefing, they were following the leads, following tip-offs of cash leaking into the country to cause harm and destruction. He said government was aware that this money would be distributed to those few, who had been charged with the responsibility to cause chaos. He noted that most of the resources were used to buy drugs and alcohol for the perpetration of mischief. He further assured emaSwati of government’s resolute commitment to disallow the planned suffocation of the transport industry. He said security and all structures would be available to uphold the rule of law and allow transport to operate. Frustrate Masuku told the media that the government would not allow ‘these rogue’ individuals to frighten and frustrate emaSwati to the point where their freedom of movement was curtailed. He added that the State would also protect the owners of public service vehicles and industry as well as those who would abide by the laws of the industry and of the country. The DPM encouraged the nation to report any disruptions and threats in their communities and government would intervene immediately. “Remember, you are your brother’s keeper; nawe uliphoyisa. Once again, I wish to express government’s appreciation to all emaSwati who have embraced the call to report any suspicious behaviour,” he said.
