Times Of Swaziland: EMBRACE COUNTRY’S NAME CHANGE - SA’S THENJIWE EMBRACE COUNTRY’S NAME CHANGE - SA’S THENJIWE ================================================================================ BY NONDUMISO MSIBI on 13/08/2018 08:47:00 MBABANE – Comedy is simply a funny way of being serious. Last Saturday over 150 comedy lovers packed the Swaziland Theatre Club to experience comedy from two celebrated comedians, Eswatini’s Mdura and South Africa’s Thenjiwe, who were headliners of the show dubbed ‘Laugh Goes On’. The show which also featured local female comedian Mandy kicked off at around 8pm. Eswatini’s TV presenter Elfoe, who was the MC for the night started off the show on a high, as he warmed the audience with a few jokes before he introduced the first act of the night which was local female comedian Mandy. Mandy delivered a 45 minute set which whet their appetite for the night of laughter. Most of her jokes were sexual as she narrated how social media made a big deal about fellow comedian, Dr Shakes’ ‘withdrawal’from taking part in this year’s MTN SWAMA awards. Taking over the microphone next was South African female comedian and actress Thenjiwe Moseley, who is a good friend of Mdura. The two are one of the lead characters in a sitcom titled The Nkhambule’s which is a series that is currently airing on Moja Love on DSTV channel 157. Moseley, said it was an honour to be back performing in what is referred to as The Kingdom of Eswatini. The female comedian told the audience that they must embrace the name change from Swaziland to Eswatini because it means they are going back to their roots as people. On another note, while on stage, the female comedian noted that she values August because it was the month of celebrating women. Even though women face several challenges on a daily basis, Moseley is convinced that women were created with enough superpower and inner-strength to win at this life thing. “As a woman I have so many amazing superpowers. Being a woman is a truly amazing thing. To be a woman is to be a strong and resilient being, who is able to handle anything that comes her way. I don’t need to be saved or rescued. I am not a damsel. Disney lies to us, we don’t need princes to save us, they need us just to stay alive,” she said. Much to the audiences delight as they screamed and applauded her. She further said her ability to shift into so many different characters - from mother, daughter, sister, ex-wife, girlfriend, straight to a CEO and still give all the roles her undivided attention and commitment, was a power like no other. The female comedian, during her set also pointed out that above all else, if anybody ever wanted to dispute the heroes women are, giving life to a child was all the proof needed. “I literally have the power to create life. As women, we are the vessels of actual life; if we decided to end human existence we could all just abstain, use contraceptives or abort. Our bodies are incredible, mind blowing things and if that’s not a superpower what the heck is?” Moseley asked.
