We have all seen how drag racing has taken the entertainment industry by storm, through the shows that have been hosted in the country. The sport is dynamic as it includes speed racing, spinning and drifting.
Last week we witnessed another massive attendance as over 3 000 people attended the spin and drift show that was held at Tums Waterworld.

This type of show can sure pull a crowd as recent pictures that have been published in the press have proven how popular these shows are.  But where did it all start? Who introduced car racing and drag racing in the country? Meet Tyrone Reid who is licenced to host such shows. He was also the first person to introduce the extreme sport in the kingdom.
Reid is no stranger in the country as he runs Tinkers in Manzini.

Where it all started

In 2005 I started drag racing; we used to host the show at the Matsapha International Airport. It was not only drag racing. Actually that was the last part of the show. Normally the show starts with speed racing, drag racing and then spinning.
The spinning is normally done at the end of the show because after the second driver its gets boring because it’s the same stunt.
Between 2005 and 2007, I brought the fastest cars in the country for the racing shows. We would have celebrities also coming all the way from South Africa to partake in the racing.

The next big show

We are bringing the next show this year to the Matsapha International Airport. They gave us another chance to host the once popular show in the country. This year’s show will be held on October 5. We always have this type of show on a Sunday because it’s a family day.

The line-up

Victor Pardal will be the Mcee at the show. He is a professional drifter, who lives for and loves skateboarding and all motor sports.
Victor Pardal  is from South of Johannesburg in South Africa.  Most people know him as the founder of Southside Crew - a car club that had its roots in the informal gathering on the streets that created the super popular Wednesday nights Southside Crew Drag Racing Event at the former Westbank Raceway.

He is also a host and on-air personality on Channel O’s TV show called Mzanzi Ridez on Channel 189 with DJ Ready D and various other DVD & TV productions. Victor is currently drifting the ever so South African popular box-shape BMW - an E30, but with a twist. This one is powered by a BMW V8 engine. 2011 was his first year drifting professionally and it has mostly been a year of research and development on the E30 BMW which has been dubbed the ‘smarties box’ due to its bright, colourful appearance.

Those who have confirmed already are; Mannis Trix Crew from Johannesburg, MotorCylce Club from Richards Bay, 360 Boyz from Dundee. The event will be covered by Speed and Sound Magazine which boasts over a million readers in South Africa.
There will be state-of-the-art staging and lights to signal the start of the races. Locals who are interested in partaking in the event should look in the press for more details.
