MBABANE – In the midst of COVID-19, people are finding more reason to be compassionate.

Eswatini’s popular rapper, Illa Penboy, who also goes by the name Mr Successful Events, donated 100 loaves of bread to the less privileged.
Born Sifiso Ndlangamandla in Hlatikhulu, Illa shared that it was a privilege for him to share with the less privileged; being affected by the coronavirus and the strict restrictions that have confined people to the premises of their homes.

“Since most people in the country are affected by COVID-19 and cannot afford to buy food, I decided to buy loaves of bread to give to those that need them,” he said.

Shared

The rapper and event’s organiser shared pictures of himself on Facebook next to the loaves which he bought on Tuesday.
This was much to the amazement of his followers who were stunned by the kindness the artist possessed.

He told the Entertainment Desk that he was not doing any of this as a campaign strategy or for publicity but was showing that even in the times of darkness where everyone was affected, we could still be our brother’s keeper.

He highlighted that as brands, it was important to everything in one’s might to show compassion to others and also lead by example.
Illa said he felt he had inspired people to come out and help because after the post went viral on Facebook he received a further donation of 100 loaves from other people who anonymously donated as well as Premier Bakeries in Matsapha which donated 200 loaves of bread.

In addition to that the artist revealed that he would not like to be in contravention of the lockdown laws while doing this act of kindness.
He said it was easier giving bread because it already came covered in plastic and these would be properly sanitised before they are shared with the people.

This then means that the artist has organised with the Municipal Council of Manzini and the Ezulwini Town Council to arrange for the distribution of the loaves to the different care points for the less privileged as well as chiefdoms that would assist in donating in the areas outside the urban boundaries.

He encouraged people not to act as silos that locked themselves in their homes and forget about the rest of humankind.
He said it was encouraging to have people jump on board this idea as it would empower the less privileged.
“I will welcome any advice towards this cause and also emphasise that this is not a campaign but just an act of goodwill,” he added.

Commended

Premier Bakeries Sales and Marketing Manager Mfundo Dlamini said they commended the initiative by the artists and saw it fit that as a company that manufactures food they also take part.
Not long ago Premier Bakeries donated E400 000 to the government of Eswatini towards the fight of the pandemic.

“This act is encouraging because it paints a picture that this is serious and no one is immune to this pandemic. It also shows that everyone should come on board in this fight whether in entertainment, corporate or in the religious fraternity,” he concluded.
