MBABANE – The modelling industry is also affected by the spread of the pandemic.  Nomcebo Ndlangamandla a face of plus size modelling in Eswatini revealed to this publication that ever since the outbreak of the pandemic she had lost out on modelling gigs that were set to be outside of the country.

The plus size model was scheduled to partake in two fashion shows in South Africa on March 28 and in Kenya on March 29 which meant that she would be on the ramp twice in one weekend in turn growing her portfolio.

Ndlangamandla revealed that preparations for the shows had taken a while and just like any person she was thrilled to fly to the different locations.
She said at the time of planning, the virus had not yet spread into African countries and they were highly hopeful it would soon fade away.

Cancelling

“This has affected my career in a negative way because other than cancelling international gigs, we have had to put on hold the local ones as well.
For instance, our agencies temporarily closed down due to the spread and the MTN BUSHFIRE festival where we were supposed to participate in was postponed,” she said.

The model said she was uncertain if their agencies would be able to revive the trips as she was unaware of the complications caused by the pandemic but was hopeful for their revival as soon as everything went back to normal.

She advised people to adhere to the ‘Stay At Home’ laws by the government as well as keeping themselves clean by washing their hands or sanitising. She also said people must stop spreading false information about the developments of the virus as this cause panic in the country.

Model Snowee also revealed that she had to cancel three gigs due to the COVID -19 pandemic and expressed her gloom for having the shows cancelled.
She was booked to walk the runway in countries, including Ghana, Kenya and Botswana.
“At the beginning of the month, there was one in Algeria but I could not attend it because of the scare, so I stayed behind. If this goes on for a long time, it will really affect my career like it is affecting everyone else’s,” she said.

Affected

She further stated that she hoped by August, the cure would have been found and government would have found ways to deal with it, as her next fashion show was due in that month.
She said this bothered her because it had also affected the entertainment industry in the kingdom.

She then urged people to listen to government and stay indoors to ensure their safety.
“This is very serious. I also think the numbers that are recorded everyday are not all the people infected with the covid-19, as those are just people who had the opportunity to test for the virus.
