MBABANE – A new window of opportunities has availed itself. This will be like music to any talented person’s ears as the Minister of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT), Princess Sikhanyiso, has revealed plans to establish a fund that will sponsor artists to record for free at the Eswatini Broadcasting Information Services (EBIS).

She officially announced the news last Thursday when she touring the country’s national broadcasting stations.
Even though she did not detail how the fund would be established, the princess mentioned that it would benefit those talented people who were disadvantaged and did not have the financial muscle to record their music.

Motivated

Being someone who has experience in the arts industry herself, the princess applauded and motivated the country’s stables and emphasised on the issues of growth and supporting young talent.

While delivering her remarks at the EBIS, she commended the station’s work of sharing information and most importantly maintaining local content and culture.
“This stable has done great work in terms of sharing information, educating and localising the content,” she said.
Moreover she also pointed out one of the challenges that the national broadcaster had, which was lack of renewed energy that would cover the whole country in order for the citizenry to have access to their channels.

Support

“I would also like to urge local businesspeople to venture into renewed energy which the country has a huge gap on and also help support young people,” said the minister.
Also speaking during the tour was Manzini North Member of Parliament Macford Sibandze, who is also the chairman of the portfolio committee.

Developing

Sibandze, who also has experience in the arts industry, stated that  they were willing to work with any stable in support of the minister’s vision of developing and promoting local stables and talented young people.

Called for comment, Eswatini Arts and Music Association (SWAMA) President Melusi ‘Zox’ Dlamini expressed his enormous excitement about the idea of the fund, which he said would solve one of the challenges they were facing.
