TIYANDZA & TANDZILE: DIFFERENTLY ALIKE

At first glance, they would strike you like the South Africa’s celebrity twins Ntando and Hlelo Masina.

With their squinty eyes, melanin skin and pouty lips, one could cross them as the popular twins yet they are simply Eswatini’s Tandzile and Tiyandza who have sass and ‘that’ thing feel.

It is natural for people to think that being a twin, an identical twin to be precise, means their character and habits are alike when in fact, they may be physically the same but very different.
Meet the 20-year old Nsingwane sisters; idiosyncratic twins united by birth. From a very young age, it was pretty evident that these two siblings were inseparable.

They attended Sifundzani High School and completed their matric at Metropolitan College where their bond strengthened over the years. However, with the many similarities that follow them around every single day, these young, gorgeous girls who exude confidence have been able to blossom and flourish individually but also remain an unstoppable force together.

Tandzile, a quiet and introverted soul who prefers a more ‘chilled’ vibe is the complete opposite of her twin Tiyandza who described herself as outgoing, outspoken and a lover of all things fun! Tiyandza is also very passionate about makeup and has even started perfecting her skills on different clients who approach her for a stellar ‘face beat’. Although the resemblance between the two is uncanny, the twins’ personalities are a tale of two cities.
We sat down with the beautiful Nsingwane twins who let us in on their lives as twin sisters!

People automatically assume that being a twin is awesome. In your own opinions, what are the perks and challenges that you face as twins?

Well, being a twin is great because you always have someone to hang out with and keep you company. We honestly don’t know how we could live without each other.

We can’t even imagine a life where we aren’t twins; we don’t know how other people do it honestly. A challenge that we think most siblings face not just twins is the constant arguments. We argue a lot! One time, Tiyandza and I had this huge fight over a remote and it even got physical at some point. However, that’s not just a ‘twin thing’; most siblings fight and argue so we aren’t any different.

Since you two spend a lot of time together and share most of your belongings as sisters, would you say the two of you share most of your friends as well?

It’s pretty safe to say we share about 90 per cent of the friends we have mainly because we go everywhere together so we are bound to form bonds with the same people. However, there are some people that one of us doesn’t get along with and we don’t force our individual friends on each other so it works out perfectly.

What are you planning on studying in university and would you like to be enrolled in the same institution?
Yes, we really would love to attend the same college but maybe not live in the same room or house.

I (Tandzile) would love to study Economics and International Trade at tertiary level which is pretty different from what Tiyandza wants to pursue. Well I (Tiyandza) am not that interested in attending university but because I have to I’ve been thinking about pursuing Psychology.

Do you think you will ever outgrow the ‘twin thing’ as you grow older and start planning on have families of your own?
We don’t think we will ever outgrow it per se because it’s not a phase. Honestly speaking, it does get tiring though because we are, most of the time, expected to do the same things. So we find ourselves in situations where we can’t exactly get certain individual things, if one of us gets it the other also has to get it too.

Living in what has been deemed the ‘social media age’, Tiyandza and Tandzile have their very own page on Facebook ‘Gemynititans’ , a name which is very personal to the two. Gemini is the twins’ star sign and coincidentally the name Gemini is actually Latin for “twins” and it is associated with twins Castor and Pollux in Greek mythology. On Instagram the twins are: tandzile.n and all_thats_tiyandza_is_gold.
