MBABANE – This weekend’s book launch, featuring four South African authors, will be a festival of books, good music and all the jazz.

The authors are Angela Makholwa (The Blessed Girl), Zukiswa Wanner (Hardly Working), Cynthia Jele (The Ones with Purpose) and Niq Mhlongo (Soweto under the Apricot Tree). The launch will start with a conversation and review at 6pm today at Bahle Gallery, before a meet and greet session with their fans tomorrow afternoon at The Wine Boutique, at Mantenga in Ezulwini at 2pm.

The authors will be in the country courtesy of Bookhive Bookworms Swaziland and supported by Bontle and The Wine Boutique. According to one of the organisers Sibongiseni Mamba, the authors will take time to meet and greet readers tomorrow afternoon, where they will also sell and sign books.

“Saturday afternoon’s session will be more relaxed. We have included some live performance by one of the country’s hidden gems, Lindelwa Vilakati, who does some soulful Afro-Soul music.
“Reading and wine often complement each other, so our venue host will serve some of its finest wine collections on the day, to be available both for tasting and buying,” he said.

Accomplished

He mentioned that the authors, all of whom are accomplished and continentally-acclaimed in their own right, were currently on a tour of South Africa.
“The authors wanted to include our country on their tour, and we welcomed them with both hands. We are excited to have them come just a weekend after the festival of music presented by  MTN Bushfire,” said Mamba.

He added that to them, this confirmed that Eswatini was indeed a melting pot of culture, arts and literature. Mamba said he would like to invite everyone who had some interest in reading, even if it’s curiosity.
“Reading enriches your mind, improves your general knowledge, boosts your ability to imagine and translate things to your own reality.
“But more than anything, reading strengthens your content,” he added.

He also invited  English Language  and Literature teachers, students and the general public to come through.
“Importantly, we want to assure parents that we will not sell or avail the wine to children who will come to the events.
“This applies particularly to the Saturday wine tasting,” Mamba said.
