MBABANE – Swazi-born writer and film director Xolelwa ‘Ollie’ Nhlabatsi’s ‘Lost in the World’ has officially made its debut on Bloomberg Television in three regions that make up the EMEA countries, which are Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Nhlabatsi’s film, ‘Lost in the World’ premiered at London’s Film Africa Festival where it was up for a Baobab Award for Best Short Film. The short film is the first film by a Swazi director to make it on the London Film Africa Festival list.

‘Lost in the World’ was written and produced by the young Swazi film-maker for a South African broadcasting channel, Mzansi Magic in February 2016.

It gained so much attention and critical acclaim that it premiered at Pretoria’s Independent Mzansi Short Film Festival and went on to premier in Europe at Greece’s Thessaloniki International Film Festival.
The short film tells a story of a South African police officer seeking revenge after her longtime friend is violently raped and murdered. The cop, played by South African actress and stylist Honey Makwakwa loses her mind and soul in the process of looking for the perpetrators.

Nhlabatsi described his style of writing as a mix of neo noir and dark comedy.
“I wanted to write a film about love lost and revenge. I found the inspiration for this project while listening to Kanye West’s song ‘My beautiful dark twisted fantasy,’ whose lyrics were about losing someone close but finding the strength to overcome it,” he said.
While writing the film’s script Nhlabatsi said he was assisting a group of journalists who had some to Johannesburg, where Nhlabatsi is now based, to investigate corrective rape.
