HLENGIWE MHLABA ADDED FOR MAKOTI FESTIVAL
MBABANE – Hlengiwe Mhlaba is the third artist to be revealed for the upcoming show.
Hlengiwe Mhlaba is a celebrated South African Gospel singer famous for her ‘Dwala Lami’ album. Her style of singing and quality of music inspires one to become more attached to Christ. Her beginnings were humble, but her latter days have been significantly flourishing. She was a teacher before becoming a household name. Interestingly, the minister of Christ and musician has promised to showcase her sensational skills for her local fans at the event. The second edition of the Makoti Festival will be held on April 22, at Malkerns Country Club with an exciting line-up that will be revealed in stages and the first was Shwi who was announced few weeks ago.
South African Sjava was the second headliner who was added to the festival line up two weeks ago. Born Jabulani Hadebe, is an SA singer, rapper, and actor. He began his acting career in 2005. He later ventured into the music industry and signed to record label Ambitiouz Entertainment. He gained mainstream popularity after he was featured on Miss Pru's acclaimed song "Ameni" in 2015.
New Life Entertainment will be hosting the second edition of the much loved music, food and fashion festival. Speaking to committee member and 23:28 establishment owner, Thembinkosi Mthethwa, revealed that they were still in preparations for the event and would reveal the artists to perform at a later stage. The one thing that was promised is that the show would be bigger and better than the last.
The Makoti Fest is a family oriented event aimed at promoting the Eswatini culture in a fun and inclusive manner, which is why the event will include activities for children among other activities.
Food and fashion stalls, live performances and cultural exchange programmes will be the order of the day at the festival and it promises to be a family friendly environment for patrons. The emphasis on the word ‘makoti’ speaks to the event’s goal to empower women through this initiative and to educate younger females on the importance of being a responsible female, while promoting entrepreneurship among women.
“The festival is the brainchild of New Life Entertainment, together with the Illa Penboy Foundation, who have seen a glaring gap in the celebration of modern women, in particular married, unmarried and the young girls who aspire to be a proud makoti in the near future. At this event, the whole family will come out to play and network, while also selling wares, dressed in African inspired clothing creating a buzz for lifestyle, fashion, food and music,” reads a statement by the committee.
According to Mthethwa, there will be traditional meals prepared on that day and patrons will also get to experience vintage Eswatini food. Companies participating in the event are encouraged to bring along members of their staff who belong to lutsango as this is an event aimed at women empowerment. Patrons are urged to bring their families and participate in this culturally rich initiative, which will intrigue foreigners and raise interest in the local youth on issues pertaining to their culture. We expect to see various designs inspired by local patterns and sceneries while enjoying a unique Eswatini experience with the whole family. This will also greatly improve relations in families as they will get a chance to interact with one another, unlike the routine that daily life brings.
