MBABANE – Despite plummeting occupancy and revenue, Sibebe Resort is still open and offers services to people.
In the face of the lockdown, the hotel management said they continued to operate with a skeleton staff.

Larry Mhlanga, who spoke on behalf of management, said the staff was conscious about the COVID-19 regulations that placed emphasis on social distancing.
He said the whole place was full of sanitisers and markings to make social distancing easier to observe.

Distancing

He mentioned that social distancing at the resort’s restaurant or anywhere around the place was being strictly observed.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, Mhlanga pointed out that Sibebe Resort had been complying with COVID-19 guidelines because it respected the laws of the country and also valued the lives of its customers.

“We don’t want big gatherings as we strictly adhere to the maximum of 20 people who should assemble at a given time. We make sure all of us observe the one-metre or more social distancing which was laid down by WHO and affirmed by our government,” he said.
The resort, he said, had deployed members of the staff to closely supervise all the places of tourist-interest within the establishment to ensure total compliance with the country’s laws.

While they ensure conformity to WHO and government regulations on the coronavirus, Mhlanga mentioned that they did not take away the tranquility and the peace of mind that the beautiful scenery provides to the people.
“We also offer takeaways,” he said.

IMF must assist

On another note, he appealed to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank to financially cushion developing countries like Eswatini that suffered economic setbacks as a result of the outbreak of the pandemic.

He noted that the lockdown played a magnificent role in saving lives that business establishments needed for their survival but had adverse effects on the economy and business, which acclaimed financial institutions like IMF and World Bank could assist in fostering their recoveries.
