MBABANE – Minister of Public Works and Transport Ntuthuko Dlamini recently stopped a recruitment process where four vacant posts for inspectors were to be filled.

A source within the ministry indicated that the minister allegedly suspected foul play and ordered that the recruitment process be put on hold. The minister allegedly said he did not approve of the way the process was done and would prefer that an independent body be tasked with the recruitment process.

Speaking on con-dition of anonymity the source said two of the four were believed to be related to some of the people heading the unit and said that cannot be allowed to continue.

Minister Ntuthuko confir-med that he did order the nullification of the recrui-tment process.

He said he discovered a number of anomalies that he felt were in contravention with the spirit of the recruitment process.

"Yes, it is true that I ordered that the recruitment process be put on hold. I discovered that all four candidates were members of the Royal Swaziland Police (RSP). The majority of our officers in the Anti-Abuse unit were once police officers and we do not want to continue with that trend.

We would like the process to be open to everyone so that even ordinary people can stand a chance of being anti-abuse officers. Another thing that made me stop the process was that someone may have leaked the questionnaire to one of his relatives before they sat for the test.

I decided to approach other relevant bodies so that they can help with the recruitment process. The four will get a chance of taking another test but I would be supervising that test and the scripts shall be kept in my office before the test," said Dlamini.

He said he was hopeful that by the end of October the recruitment process would be over. Dlamini said their aim as a ministry was to have more anti-abuse officers because a number of people were abusing government equipment.

Dlamini said he had taken it upon himself to make sure that he guards against people that abuse government equipment.

Efforts of getting comment from Gwebu drew a blank at the time of going to press. Both his cell numbers were not available on the MTN network.
