MBABANE – MTN Swaziland is currently working on bringing the music downloading product back to the country.

This was confirmed by Swaziland MTN Corporate Affairs Manager Mpumelelo Makhubu who said the public can expect a better experience which will allow locals to download content including music and wallpapers on their mobile phones. Makhubu said the company could not confirm the set date of when the facility would resume operating but a press release would be issued out soon.

In recent media reports a South African based company called Wirel Connect invited local artists to send in their music which would then be promoted through the music and wallpaper downloading product in South Africa. Among other local acts that signed a contract for their music to be promoted by Wirel Connect were Blaque Creations’ hip hop artist Diba Diba who signed up last year.

Digital

As the music industry goes digital and most customers in the entertainment sector follow the ‘buy what you want’ idea, hardcopy album sales have dropped drastically worldwide.

The local music industry has had a hard time with CD sales for years now but as the internet takes over most of the industry, Swaziland is also starting to suffer even more.

The most successful acts as far as sales are concerned have always been gospel artists as well as local afro-soul artist Bholoja.

"The product has not been working for a while now but as the music industry in the country grows we will re-introduce the downloading package at a date yet to be confirmed," added Makhubu.

I think MTN must outsource such services. They must remain a service provider. Honestly they are failing to maintain what they are providing us now. How can they maintain downloads if they can't maintain their Data speeds!
