MBABANE – There is light at the end of the dark tunnel for the National Under- Under-23 squad after all.

The squad, under the guidance of coach Caleb Ngwenya, has already been picked but the players’ ages are yet to be verified by the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS).

Squad head coach Ngwenya disclosed yesterday that his squad will go to full-time camp on November 10 to November 18.
The tentative venue for the full-time camp is Mphophoma. It will not be the first time, Mphophoma hosts the national squad.

“The camp is obviously welcome because we need to spend some time with the team. I am happy to announce that I have already picked the squad and submitted the list to the Football Association. They would be the ones to release the squad,” he said.

Ngwenya’s squad will face a mean-looking Zimbabwe Under-23 squad that is fresh from a moral boosting 2-0 win over the country’ senior national team, Sihlangu. The ‘Young Warriors’, as the Zimbabwean Under-23 squad is affectionately known, embarrassed the locals at Somhlolo National Stadium in a game played under floodlights in midweek.

The NFAS Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Frederick Mngomezulu also confirmed that the squad was scheduled to go to full-time camp next month.

“Our plan is to ensure that both the senior squad Sihlangu and the Under-23s utilise all the available FIFA weeks. They will go to camp definitely on the next FIFA week but we are yet to confirm the venues because Sihlangu will also be in camp at the same time,” he said.

The Under 23s will face their Zimbabwean counterparts in February next year in what will be a two-legged encounter to be played at home and away. This will be an All Africa Cup Games Qualifier.
