MBABANE – Anglers will soon leave the country to compete in the World Championships set for early next month.

Mexico hosts the 10th Black Bass World Championships at Lake Vicente Guerrero between November 7 and 10. Swaziland Angling Association (SAA) President and team Manager, Derek Hopf said the team was raring to go to the event.

“The team will leave on October 30. Preparations are at advanced stage. The local team will be out to give the rest of the world’s anglers a hiding,” said Hopf.

“We budgeted E320 000 for the championships. We thank countless sponsors for coming to the party.”
Seasoned anglers led by captain, Louis van Zuydam, Dave Wright, Manny Rego, Mickey Figueiredo and Ward Rijkenberg will leave for the global showpiece.

The anglers are part of a team that won a bronze medal for the country during the Zone VI Bass Championships at Maguga Dam in Northern Hhohho about a month ago.
Team Swaziland defied all odds to claim a silver medal during the World Championships in Venezuela in 2012.
