PLS SHOULD ROPE IN PRIVATE SECURITY - ‘SPORT’

MBABANE – Former Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Zwelonke ‘Sport’ Dlamini has implored the organisation to be hands on in their bid to curb the altercations that ensue during games.

Speaking in the wake of the recent nasty clash between fierce rivals Mbabane Swallows and Royal Leopard in the past two weekends, Dlamini said during his time he was able to curb such unbecoming incidents because he was a hands- on man.

“I am not boasting but if you remember well, I was able to stop such things mainly because I was always on the ground.
“Football is a practical sport and one cannot expect to control such things by remote control.

“I even used to clash with journalists because I wanted to ensure nothing went wrong. For me, the PLS can do much better in dealing with such because alternatively they can introduce pre-match meetings. These meetings would map the way forward ahead of each and every game to be played and such incidents would be a thing of the past,” he said.

Commenting on the incident that also resulted in two Swallows’ marshals being arrested in the aftermath of the drama, Dlamini urged the PLS to consider hiring a private company.

“The major problem is that there is always a conflict of interest whenever Royal Leopard play because how do the opposing teams know which police officer is on duty and which one is with the team? I feel it was wrong for the police officers whether on duty or not to have been near the tunnels. In any case, marshals are not supposed to be there as well because that is what always starts the trouble.

“Marshals should only be posted to watch the teams’ supporters and not anywhere near the technical area. This game does not belong to us, so we must not spoil it. We have rules. Only people in the team sheets are supposed to be in the technical area,” Dlamini said.
