SWALLOWS MARSHALS GET E500 BAIL EACH

MBABANE – The Mbabane Swallows marshals who were arrested for the Somhlolo National Stadium incident,  have been admitted to E500 bail each.


Jeffrey Shongwe (49) of Shewula and Bheki Magagula (39) of Mvutjini appeared before Magistrate Sihle Dludlu yesterday.
They have been charged with of assault common and obstructing the course of justice.


The duo was arrested by Lobamba police on Monday following an episode in which they allegedly wrestled with on-duty Royal Swaziland Police (RSP) officers during the Castle Premiership Challenge second leg semi-finals between Mbabane Swallows and Royal Leopard at Somhlolo National Stadium. Mbabane Swallows beat Leopard 3 -1 (6- 2 on aggregate) to reach the finals against Green Mamba.


In the first count they have been charged with assault common in that on Sunday they manhandled and pushed Constable Sifiso Dlamini.
In the second count they are alleged to have obstructed Constable Sifiso Dlamini and Constable Gcina Vilakati in the course of their duty. The officers were on-duty and they provided security during the soccer match.


When they made their appearance before court, the suspects were informed about their right to legal representation and they both elected to instruct attorneys to represent them in the matter.


The prosecutor moved an application that they be remanded to custody until Tuesday which is their next remand date. They moved their applications for bail which were not opposed. The court fixed bail at E500 per suspect.


According to the charge sheet, in Count One, “Accused One and Two are charged with the offence of common assault in that on or about September 28, 2014 at Somhlolo National Stadium, the accused persons each or both of them acting in furtherance of a common purpose, did wrongfully, unlawfully and intentionally commit the offence of assault common by manhandling and pushing Constable Sifiso Dlamini and thus committed the said offence”


In Count Two “Accused One and Two are charged with obstructing the course of justice in that on September 28, 2014 they, acting in furtherance of a common purpose did unlawfully, wrongfully and intentionally obstruct Constable Sifiso Dlamini and Constable Gcina Vilakati in the course of their day duty while providing security at a soccer match.”
