MBABANE – Botswana-based Zimbabwean coach Blessing Moyo is heavily linked with a move to red and white glamour giants Mbabane Swallows.

He has been recommended to the Swazi Telecom Charity Cup kings by one of the locally based coaches, who, however, declined to have his name published in fear of victimisation at his place of employment.

“It is up to Swallows to decide whether they want him or not but he is the right man for the job. He is experienced and has coached in Botswana for almost half his coaching life. There are so many similarities between Botswana football and the local one, so he would have little problems settling in at Swallows.”  Blessing started playing football in Zimbabwe at the age of 14. His first team in Botswana was Makgabisanaga in Maun when he first came to Botswana in 2001.

“After winning the region’s Second Division League, the team went to Selebi-Phikwe for play-offs. Although his team lost, he benefited because he caught the eyes of Nico United officials. After playing for Nico for one season he went to Albania in Europe for a short stint with a Premier League side. In 2003, he returned to Botswana where he played for ECCO City Greens in Francistown.  The team, which was then in the First Division, was promoted to the Premier League the same year,” our source close to the coach said.

He said he had already informed Swallows officials on Moyo’s availability and said they (Swallows officials) seemed interested.
However, Swallows acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sibusiso Manana said, yesterday, the media would be informed when the team finally secures the services of a coach. “At the moment there is nothing for public consumption because the truth of the matter is that as a team we do not have a coach as yet. We will inform the media and other stakeholders if there is any latest development to that effect,” Manana said.

Moyo, after parting ways with Botswana’s elite league sides Tafic FC and Echo Green respectively is currently unattached. He is, however, fresh from attending a CAF A Licence course in his home country, Zimbabwe.
