MBABANE – Despite others claiming to be in charge as Mbabane Highlanders National Supporters Committee (NSC), the club yesterday unveiled its new and official NSC at the BPL Telecommunications offices at Sidwashini.

The new NSC, which takes over from the one dissolved almost a month after last season ended and chaired by Kenneth Dlamini, was formally introduced in the presence of the club’s Managing Director and BPL Telecommunications boss Bheki ‘Rubber’ Simelane.

He was also in the company of the team’s General Manager, Andrew Mamba, and the latter did the official unveiling of the new NSC to be in office for a year as per the club’s leadership contract and like the past NSC.
“As you know, this team is run by a contract which Simelane has to lead and according to it, the NSC will only be in office for a year as has been the case even with the one we had last season,” Mamba explained.

He then named the new committee as follows; Chairman – Khulekani Bhembe, Vice-Chairman – Peter Magagula, Secretary – Sanele Sangweni, Vice-Secretary – Henry Tsela while Sifiso Tsabedze and Bhekithemba Madonsela are members.

“Bhembe is the chairman because he stays around Mbabane and we felt he can always be available for meetings otherwise this is not about positions but the committee working together for the interest of the team and its supporters,” Mamba said.

Asked on what will happen in case the previous committee comes up to claim they were still in office as they did in a recent team meeting held at La Casserole but basing it on the suspended constitution of the team, Mamba said the constitution gives them two years but they needed to understand it was suspended. “The team was given to Simelane and he asked to run it in his own way using a contract of five years which the supporters and patrons blessed. His agreeing to lead the team was solely based on the contract, hence the suspended constitution,” Mamba explained.

He appealed to the previous NSC to prove they were there as real Highlanders people by respecting the leadership, the brand and the new committee as opposed to always making up stories in the media.
Meanwhile, the new Chairman Bhembe said they were greatly honoured to get such recognition from the team’s leadership.

“This is not about us or the positions but we’re here to represent the team’s supporters with a passion and will to work together with the leadership in ensuring we’re back to where we used to be in local football as we’re known for trophies,” Bhembe said.
He also appealed to the supporters, and the previous committee to welcome the change and to know they were also there to try and help the team and not to fight with anyone, hence assistance was expected from all sectors.
