MBABANE – The Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, David ‘Cruiser’ Ngcamphalala, has proven to be a man of his word.

The minister had promised to give E250 as a gift to referee Bhekani Zulu, now popularly known among his colleagues as ‘Umbutfo Giyakabili’.
The promise was made during a referees’ course and triggered by that Zulu had undergone the kubutseka tradition which sees boys turn into men by joining a certain regiment and dedicate his life to His Majesty King Mswati III.

This is something many Swazi men pride themselves in after undergoing the ceremony and be christened with a new name by which they will be known at the regiment sector, usually coming from something one would have done which would have been found humorous and or worth remembering.

The referee was summoned to the minister’s office yesterday where he met Ngcamphalala who presented him with the money, further adding E50 to cater for his transport costs back to Siphofaneni.

“This is nothing much but for me to show that I do keep my promise. I had said I would give this young man a monetary gift because he underwent kubutseka and today I am delivering on my promise,” said the minister.
Meanwhile, the referee promised Minister Ngcamphalala that he would get some of his colleagues in the referring profession to follow in his footsteps.

He mentioned that among them would be top Premier League referees Simanga Nhleko and Thulani Sibandze.
